SOY CANDLE CARE

CARING FOR SOY CANDLES IS EASY!

Caring for soy candles is very similar to caring for paraffin wax candles.  Always place your candle on a heat-resistant surface and trim your wicks to 1/4" before lighting (please do not assume that the wick is the proper length when you first light your candle - however, it is our goal to provide candles with the wicks perfectly trimmed and ready to light when you receive them).

To ensure even burning, always try to burn your candles at least one hour for every inch in diameter.  For example, if you have a candle that is 4" in diameter, you want to burn it for approximately 4 hrs., or at least until the entire top layer of your candle has liquified.  Keep candle away from drafts caused by vents or fans.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Dwindling wicks:  You may occassionally experience dwindling wicks as soy candles burn much slower than paraffin wax candles, making them last much longer.  If you are faced with wicks barely staying lit, simply blow out the flame and pour some of the melted wax into the trash and relight the candle.  Remember, the wax is not going to be as hot as paraffin wax candles so it should not burn a hole in the trash bag (this is why you can apply the freshly melted wax directly to your skin as a massage oil/moisurizer and not get burned).  This should fix the problem and the wicks should be burning steadily again.  You most likely will not experience this problem with the same candle twice as long as the wick is kept a little longer than 1/4".

Wick breaks off too short:  If, while trimming the wick, the wick breaks off and won't stay lit, try lighting it and as the wax at the base of the wick begins to melt tilt the container and let the melted wax run to the sides.  This process will remove some of the wax from the base of the wick, thus exposing more wick enabling the candle to burn steadily again.

Excessive smoking when extinguishing the flame:  As you may or may not know there are candle tools that you can buy to trim wicks and extinquish flames.  If you do not have those tools and want a cheap way to extinquish the flame with very little smoking from the wick, you can take a large paper clip and straighten out two of the bends.  About a 1/2 in. up from the straightened end, bend at a 90 degree angle.  When you are ready to extinguish your candle flame(s) simply push the wick sideways into the melted wax using the end of your revised paperclip.  Once extinquished, gently lift the wick back to an upright position.  Whala, no smoke!  If your candle has a lid, simply put the lid on to extinguish your candle.
